Bellevue University Classes

Bellevue University and the Omaha Homeschool Learning Center will be offering Composition 1 this fall. Our hope is that this will be the first of many such classes that will be limited to homeschoolers, apply to general education requirements of most degrees, and easily transfer to other colleges and universities.

The class will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:45 at Bellevue University’s west campus, just off 120th and Maple, beginning August 26th and ending November 13th. In order to be able to offer this class, we will need a minimum number of students enrolled, so please do not delay in registering. You can obtain your registration form by contacting Jack Donnelly at 293-7621 or omahahomeschool@gmail.com.

The total cost for the three-hour class will be $275 ($225 tuition plus a $45 administrative fee, as well as a $25 fee charged by the Learning Center). This is a generous tuition discount from Bellevue’s usual rate of $660; currently UNO charges $492 for the same kind of class and Creighton $1900. Even a community college would charge $215, and, of course, none of those classes would be limited to homeschoolers or choose faculty that will be sure to respect our values.

We had hoped to offer one other class this fall, but I felt that there was insufficient time to be sure that it met all of our careful criteria. By spring session, we should have several classes to offer.

I am especially excited about partnering with nationally recognized Bellevue University. As Peterson’s College Guide reports, “From a small, one-building campus in the Omaha suburb of Bellevue, Nebraska, that original, down-to-earth vision has expanded worldwide. The University is recognized globally as an educational leader that values individual achievement, high productivity, and applied critical thinking in creating opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.” Moreover, as I have spoken with people familiar with the university, I’ve been assured that the values of the faculty and staff are very much in line with those of homeschoolers. I’ve also been impressed with the dean’s enthusiasm for working with the homechool population.
