Answers To Your Pressing Questions

[Pssst…if you have already registered for classes, scroll down to ADDITIONAL CONCERNS]

What exactly do you guys do?
R/The Omaha Homeschool Learning Center provides weekly classes to supplement your home curriculum. We typically offer 80-90 classes per semester  with 550 or more kids in attendance throughout the day.

When are you about this?
R/We meet on Wednesdays for 12-14 weeks in the fall and “spring.” Usually, we start the first week of September and then again the first week of February. Classes are held from 9am to 4pm; kids can take as many or as few as they like.
Registration usually starts the first week of June and the first week of December. Check out our calendar for precise dates.

Where does this all take place?
R/You may find us on Wednesdays at the Southwest Church of Christ (124th and W. Center). NOTE: Google may be wrong about our location. Nor is the Learning Center located in Bellevue (which is our business/home address.) You can see the real location here

And what is this going to set me back?
R/Tuition is typically $120 for a semester class; there also usually an additional charge for supply fees or textbooks. Tuition is higher for classes that meet for an extended time.
Volunteers receive discounted tuition ($87.60), priority registration, and a stipend applied as credit. (More here.)

So where do I see your classes?R/We thought you’d never ask: here.

When are next semester’s classes going to be announced?
R/Registration for the fall semester typically begins the first week of June; the spring semester registration begins the last week of November. Classes are typically unveiled two weeks before registration. You can find more details by looking at our calendar.

How do we contact you?
R/You can reach us at omahahomeschool@gmail.com. Teachers’ email addresses can be found here.

ADDITIONAL CONCERNS

Do parents have to stay on the premises?
R/The short answer is no. However, be advised that the Learning Center is only responsible for the safety of children in the classroom; parents or the children themselves are responsible at all other times. Classes may end before the scheduled time on occasion. Please instruct your children to remain in the classroom if you would like to pick them up. Unsupervised students should be able to follow the Learning Center’s policies.

Where do kids eat?
R/Wherever they can. We don’t have a cafeteria, but there is a Moms’ Room and tables in the lobby; many kids prefer to eat in hallway nooks with their friends. Students with full schedules may eat in class but please explain the situation to the teacher beforehand.

What do people do who aren’t in a class?
R/We have a Mom’s Room with a plethora of babies, toddlers, and mommies (and an occasional dad). It also has coffee, tea, and some toys.
We also have tables in the lobby for families, and when the weather is nice there is a playground for younger children. Older kids are free to study or socialize in any spot they can find, although most rooms are occupied so they are often found in groups in the hallways and other nooks.

Do we need to check in on the first day of classes?
R/Nope; just scoot your kids to their first class. We will have maps available, but you are responsible for your kids’ schedule of classes and your own volunteer schedule.

Do you ever cancel classes due to weather?
R/Reluctantly. We generally follow the lead of the Omaha Public Schools.
