Hi Volunteers!

Thank you so much for volunteering to be a part of the Omaha Homeschool Learning Center. You are such a vital part of this mission to help homeschool families. We couldn’t function without you!

This message contains your specific jobs for the semester. (See below or, if you prefer, the attachment.)

1a. Please check this over to be sure that the times and the number of jobs is correct.
1b. If you have young children who will be with you when volunteering, you should not be assigned as a classroom helper; let us know if you are.

2, Please reply as soon as you are able. You can help my addled brain if you will specifically write your name and all of your job positions (e.g., “Jane Doe--ballet and hands-on science helper.”) 

3. We do our best to give everyone at least one job, but on occasion that does not work out.(Some people have several duties due to the particular nature of those jobs or the particular nature of those people.) Typically, we have problems placing someone as a volunteer due to their limited availability and/or to the fact that they have children with them. We also give classroom helper jobs to adults before kids, although we always take kids for set-up and clean-up. 

If you don't see your name on the list, it means we were unable to get you a job this semester.  You will still receive the tuition discount, but you will not receive a scholarship award. If this impacts your ability to pay for classes, please let us know. 
Note: we typically have some last-minute changes, so we may need you yet, We will contact you in a tizzy if this occurs.

4. Scholarships are awarded based on how often you are able to help. For each twelve-week course you assist with, you earn a scholarship credit as follows:

• $45 for assisting in one 12-week course

• $60 per course if you have two or more assignments

• $65 for helping with set-up or clean-up

• $130 if you help with both set-up and clean-up

Scholarships will be credited to your account before the second payment is due, around week six. 

5. Currently, some volunteer opportunities are stillavailable for a) set-up (8:15 a.m.), b) clean-up (3:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m.), and c) between 12 pm and 4 pm for adults who are able to volunteer without children,.See forms here.

   You could also sign up for these times even if you have an a ssignment, and we will be forever grateful.

6. If you can’t make it on a particular Wednesday,it's important that you notify us by a phone call or text (402-541-4829) so that we can find a replacement for you.

 JOB DESCRIPTIONS

CLASSROOM HELPERS

It is our goal to have a low adult-to-student ratio in the classrooms; thank you for making this possible. Your job is simply to help the kids follow the teacher's directions (You are there to help guide children, not supplement the instruction—for instance, you don’t need to know Spanish to help the Spanish teacher). You should NOT have your own young children with you for this job. Also, please alert us if you are scheduled to be a classroom helper while your child is in a Tae Kwon Do class for 5-7-year-olds (12pm), as these classes are only half an hour in length.

SET-UP
Sarah Winn will give you your assignment. It’s important that you come by 8:15am.

CLEAN-UP
Please report to Sarah Winn for your assignments. You will help us with sweeping, wiping down tables, emptying trash….it’s kind of like home. :( We may go as late as 4:45 the first few weeks, but we are soon a well-oiled machine ending by 4:30. It’s important to us to leave our gracious hosts with a clean church. If you finish your assignment, please check with Sarah to see if anything else needs to be done.

BABYSITTING
This important position will need contact between you and the teacher whom you are working with. We will send a follow-up email to help you confer with each other. This job can be done even if you have younger children with you. 

HALL MONITOR
Thanks so much for spending time in the halls while our classes are in session. This job can be done even if you have younger children with you. Please sign in at the front table as you begin at the far left (south) end of the lobby. We will have instructions for you there. Please be aware that we hope you'll be able to take a quick peek at the playground, excluding days of precipitation. (We have two hall monitors each hour, so you can trade off if you prefer. :)

FLOATING HELPER
You are the right-hand man of the Learning Center. Your major job is to handle all of those unforeseen jobs that come up. This position works best when you can see what needs to be done and do it; thank you!
--at the beginning of the hour, find Jack or Holly at the front table to see if there are any emergency positions that need to be filled.
--if a teacher or classroom helper is absent, you will become the classroom helper in that class.
--if you are not otherwise employed, please sit at the front table to help us handle any issues that arrive 

ON-CALL HELPER
Every week we have volunteers who are unable to help due to sickness or emergency. When that happens, we will text you a message that you are needed. (There is no need for you to check in weekly, but it's vital that you are available and that you check for texts.) Typically, we find out before 10am and notify you then. Thanks so much for helping us plug a hole when the dike is leaking!
