VOLUNTEER FAQs
How do I volunteer? You will be offered the chance to volunteer as part of the registration process. Be sure to obtain a volunteer membership before checking out to receive the tuition discount.
What do volunteers do? Classroom helpers simply help the kids follow instructions for 50 minutes (e.g., “No, sweetie, cut the construction paper, not your hair.”) We also have hall monitors, babysitters, and people to help us set up and clean up.
Can I volunteer if I have young kids with me? Sure. However, we can only use you as a hall monitor or babysitter for teachers’ children.
Can I make my kids do it? Responsible students 14 years and older may also volunteer, although we typically choose an adult over a child for classroom work. We can also use kids 12 years and older for set-up (8:15 am) and clean-up (4pm) so long as they are able to help move chairs and tables.
Can I volunteer when my kids are in class? Yes, you choose when and how much you volunteer.
I heard that volunteering is done during class time. That’s not a question, but, yes there’s nothing to take home.
That’s a lie: I see people working at the end of the day. Well, some people help us set-up or clean up, and we pay them a bit more. Still not a question.
Can I choose which class that I volunteer for? We will take your suggestions into consideration, but ultimately, We will have to make an assignment based on our needs, which may not align with your preferences.
We also want to help those for whom volunteering is a hardship. If you have two or more children under the age of 5 with you who are not taking classes, you can still receive a 27% discount per class. This is also available for families who have other issues that prevent them from volunteering (e.g., a significant illness or primary care of a parent). Please apply to us at omahahomeschool@gmail.com. (Unfortunately, these scholarships are not eligible for early registration.)
