Shakespeare Auditions: Twelfth Night

We are still in the process of deciding the audition and production dates. To receive an email when this information is settled, click here.

Auditions will be held from 11am to 1:30pm TBD, with callbacks the following week from 11-2pm at the Learning Center gym (Southwest Church of Christ, 2600 S 124th St, Omaha)

You will read for one character of your choice in one of the audition scenes. Your fellow actors will selected for you unless you have a group ready to go, consisting of people who have not auditioned for other parts.

We will have paper copies at the auditions, but we encourage you to fill out the audition form ahead of time to check with your parents for rehearsal and tech week conflicts. You can also download the audition scenes to practice.

AUDITION FORM       AUDITION SCENES        UPDATED SCRIPT

When you audition, READ SLOWLY, LOUDLY and with ANIMATION. Try to show that you understand what is happening in the scene.

Actors should be familiar with the scene; if you choose to memorize it, please keep the scene in your hand as you audition.

We may have you read for other parts on that day. Some actors will be called back to audition the following week.

Students may indicate on their audition forms if they are not interested in playing a certain kind of role or are only available for one cast or the other. This would be the appropriate spot to indicate if you only want a Shakespearean role.

For the play summary, see Wikipedia.

What We Do

Every spring the Learning Center stages a family-friendly adaptation of a Shakespearean play. While lines have been abbreviated, the vast majority of the play’s action is retained, including subplots and the most memorable lines and moments. (However, the iambic pentameter has been almost entirely destroyed.) A group of narrators has been added to help explain and enliven the play.

Tuition

The cost is $195 for tuition and a $40 class fee, which includes costumes, make-up, props, scenery, technicians, and theatre rental.

Rehearsals

Homeschool students ages 13-19 (as of Jan. 5, 2024) are eligible to participate.

Rehearsals will be held at OHLC on FRIDAYS beginning December 1. Rehearsals will continue Dec. 8 and 15th, break for Christmas, then recommence Jan. 5--March 1. One cast will rehearse from 11am-12:45, and the other will rehearse from 1:05 to 2:50pm. Actors should list their availability, and we will cast them accordingly. Even with two casts, we usually cannot cast everyone who auditions.

Each cast will have two performances. All actors must be available EITHER on March 7 (9am–1pm) AND also be available from March 8 (11am to 9pm ) OR be available on March 7 (2-6pm) AND March 9 (11am-9pm). Students will be able to indicate preferences on their audition form.
