Hi all,
Thanks for a great first day! Here’s some important info as we move forward:
-
A Note on Partnership: The Learning Center only works if it’s a shared effort. Families, teachers, and staff all play a part, and we’re grateful for the many ways you help make our days run smoothly.
We’re especially grateful for that partnership when
—you read and put into practice the information that we send. We try to make it easier by boldfacing what matters most, so you can skim and still catch what applies.—you try the website when you have questions. Many answers can be found at omahahomeschool.com, especially under the Current Students tab, the FAQs, Policies, and our Calendar. There’s even a search icon at the top right.
—you offer us grace in the gaps: when the inevitable hiccups occur, patience and goodwill make a real difference. We’re grateful to be part of a community that shows both so often. I know we look like a normal company, but we’re really just a mom-and-pop shop with two full-time employees (named below :).
2. INCLEMENT WEATHER: An email will be sent out by 7:30am if classes will not meet. Typically, we follow the lead of the Omaha Public Schools.
-
ILLNESS: Although any public area increases exposure to germs, we ask that contagious children not attend classes. Colds are unavoidable, but children with a fever, severe cough, or any infectious disease should remain at home. Also keep kids at home
-
until they’ve been fever-free for at least 24 hours, without using fever-reducing medicine.
-
if they have a rash that is rapidly spreading, or has honey-colored crusts or fluid-filled sores. (Please excuse the disgusting details.)
Non-contagious rashes such as eczema, psoriasis, heat rash, and hives are exempt from this policy.
-
LOBBY QUIET ZONE: Please avoidall conversationin the lobby outside of the office to allow the secretaries to work. During passing we allow for the natural increase in noise level but please do not stop to have conversations there, despite the natural inclination. Just move outside the building or further down the hall. Thanks!
-
ABSENCES: Unless your children are in high school classes, you don’t need to notify us about absences, though it’s often appreciated if students let their teachers know in class the week prior. If they don’t, it’s no big deal.
--For high school classes, please email the teacher directly. Teacher email addresses are listed here.
-
VOLUNTEERS: Contrary to the previous point, please let us know if you are going to be absent. If you are reporting your absence on a Wednesday, please text 402-541-4829 with your name and jobs, including times.
NOTE: volunteer scholarships will be applied to your account around week five.
7. GRADES: Most classes at the Learning Center are not graded. You should have received an email about grades if your child is in American Government, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, General Science, Modern Russia, Physical Science, Psychology, Sign Language, or Writing Workshop. Let us know if you didn’t.
Thanks,
Jack and Holly Donnelly

OLD NEWS
Please remember: The Learning Center is only responsible for the safety of your children while they are in class; at all other times children are responsible for themselves. Children aged 6 and older who excuse themselves to the bathroom and do not return to class are also not considered our responsibility.
STUDENTS SHOULD KNOW OUR CODE OF CONDUCT, especially the rules that are most likely to pertain to them. Parents, please make sure that this is the case. See it here.
DRINK POLICY: No open drink containers are allowed outside of the Moms’ Room. Drinks should never be left unattended; immediately report spills. No red or orange drinks allowed, whether in closed containers or not.
TEACHER CONTACT information can be found on our website under CONTACT US http://omahahomeschool.com/contact-us/contact-a-teacher/
NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE SANCTUARY: This includes water and snacks for toddlers. (Feel free to sit in the hall just outside the sanctuary where they can eat and drink and you can peep through the window.)

NOTE: All ballet students are excluded from these rules during class, and young ballet students may stay in their ballet outfits in other classes.
-
Skirts and dresses should be no more than an inch or so above the knee, even if leggings, tights, or shorts are worn. Shorts (including athletic shorts) should at least come down just past the fingertips when arms are at the side, even if leggings or tights are worn.
-
No tube tops, halter tops, spandex, muscle shirts, bare backs, low necklines, etc.

Shoulder straps should be at least two fingers wide.
-
Midriff should not show when standing or sitting. Students should be able to raise their hands above their head without their midriff showing.
