Grades Fall 2025
September 8, 2025Learning Center Updates 3
September 18, 2025Learning Center Week Two: please read.
Thanks everyone for a great first day! I think you will be amazed (as we always are) at how much smoother this next week will be.
Many of our rules can be boiled down to DON’T MESS WITH THE CHURCH BUILDING OR THE STUFF IN IT. The bottom line is that there is no Learning Center without Southwest Church; we need to be respectful guests.
Please remember: The Learning Center is only responsible for the safety of your children while they are in class; at all other times children are responsible for themselves. Children aged 6 and older who excuse themselves to the bathroom and do not return to class are also not considered our responsibility.
PLAYGROUND RULES: 1. There will be no Learning Center supervision on the playground. 2. Parents are responsible for their children on the playground. 3. Adults at the playground should feel free to discipline children even if they are not your own. 4. The Code of Conduct is still in effect on the playground (.e.g., “Rough horseplay is also not allowed on the playground.” “My children will obey all adults and address them with respect. My children and I will respect other students–no name-calling, taunting, etc.”)
GIRL NEEDED FOR BALLROOM DANCE at 2pm: We’re offering half price tuition just this once. (The boys stepped up but a girl stepped down. As Romeo said, “O, I am Fortune’s fool!”)
TEACHER CONTACT information can be found on our website under contact us: http://omahahomeschool.com/contact-us/contact-a-teacher/
GRADES: Most classes at the Learning Center are not graded. You should have received an email about grades if your child is in American Government, Biology, Chemistry, Geography, General Science, Physical Science, Psychology, Sign Language or Writing Workshop. Let us know if you didn’t.
CELL PHONES should be silenced and not looked at while students are in class. Students violating this policy may have their phones confiscated for the day.
VOLUNTEERS: Please let us know if you are going to be absent. If you are reporting your absence on a Wednesday, please text 402-541-4829 with your name and jobs.
NOTE: volunteer credit will be applied to your account around week five of the semester.
NO FOOD OR DRINK IN THE SANCTUARY: This includes water and snacks for toddlers. (Feel free to sit in the hall just outside the sanctuary where they can eat and drink and you can peep through the window.)
LOBBY QUIET ZONE: Please avoid all conversation in the lobby out of respect for church office workers. During passing we allow for the natural increase in noise level, but please do not stop and have conversations here, despite the natural inclination. Just move outside the building or further down the hall. Thanks!
OUTSIDE QUIET ZONE: Just outside the door by the stairs is the pastor’s office, who still needs to work even on Wednesdays. This area is marked on our map (“Off Limits”), found here.
Thanks,
Jack and Holly Donnelly
(located at the front table at the south end of the lobby)
OLD NEWS
STUDENTS SHOULD KNOW OUR CODE OF CONDUCT, especially the rules that are most likely to pertain to them. Parents, please make sure that this is the case. See it here.
DRINK POLICY: No open drink containers are allowed outside of the Moms’ Room. Drinks should never be left unattended; immediately report spills. No red or orange drinks allowed, whether in closed containers or not.
DRESS CODE (which applies to everyone who comes into the Learning Center, including parents and siblings even if they are only picking up or dropping off kids):
-
Leggings and tights CAN be worn but are not considered pants; the garment worn on top needs to meet skirt and shorts requirements below.
NOTE: All ballet students are excluded from these rules during class, and young ballet students may stay in their ballet outfits in other classes.
-
Skirts and dresses should be no more than an inch or so above the knee, even if leggings, tights, or shorts are worn. Shorts (including athletic shorts) should at least come down just past the fingertips when arms are at the side, even if leggings or tights are worn.
-
No tube tops, halter tops, spandex, muscle shirts, bare backs, low necklines, etc.
-
Shoulder straps should be at least two fingers wide.
-
Midriff should not show when standing or sitting. Students should be able to raise their hands above their head without their midriff showing.
-
No baggy or sagging pants or shorts. Pants should be worn at the waist, and no undergarments should be visible. If this is a problem, please wear a belt.
